Adding A Second Dog To The Home

We have a Mini Australian Shepard and he is 15 months old. He is very attached to mom and dad. He's an extremely needy dog who demands a lot of attention.

When we take him to the dog park he is more interested in sniffing around as opposed to playing with other dogs. He will play with them for a few seconds then comes and sits by mom and dad.

My parents and my girl friend's parents both have Mini Australian Shepherds. Our dog plays with them well but after a while he is ready to leave and spend time on his own. He is a high energy dog but does lay around a good bit.

My girl friend and I were wondering how he might respond to adding a second dog to the home. We are thinking of getting an English Bulldog. Do you think getting a second dog specifically an English Bulldog would do more harm than good?

Thank you for your responses!
