Are Deodorizing Sprays for Dogs Safe?

by Michael
(USA)

I just got a baby Mini Aussie (love him to death) and he's starting to get a little stink on him. I was wondering if deodorizing sprays for dogs are safe to use? Safe for puppies as well?

Thank you all!

If your pup is eating good species-appropriate food, is living in a clean environment, and is being brushed regularly (hair and teeth), he should not have a bad odor. Please re-think putting chemicals on your puppy. If he has a bad odor from lying in feces or something else objectionable, it's far better to give him a bath with a very mild soap, rinse him thoroughly and towel dry. If he still has a bad odor after this gentle bath, there is possibly an underlying health issue or food issue.

Before going to a spray full of chemicals, try to see where the odor is coming from. Has the pup been rolling outside? Is it the coat, or just the feet? We call them dorito feet lol! Maybe a bath with a gentle dog shampoo would fix it. Sometimes though, dogs just smell like - dogs.
