Guide To Australian Shepherd Training & Care

Aussie Adoption

Greetings, my name is Russ Peters. My wife and I have been trying to adopt a purebred Aussie since September of last year. We have experience raising Aussies and unfortunately both of our beloved family members passed on to doogie heaven at the precious ages of 12 and 13 years old. We live in Hampton Va. and just can't seem to find an Aussie in this area. Both of our beloved family members had bobbed tails, so wanted to get another one or two like this. All the ones we researched seem to have tails. If would help point us in the right direction it would be appreciated.

I found my purebred Aussie on Petfinder.com last month. He has a bobbed tail and was left at a kill shelter. He has quickly become a cherished member of our family. We lost our dear 14 year old mixed breed Aussie Jett this summer and will always miss him greatly, but our new boy Perry is a wonderful dog too. Good luck to you. I hope you are able save a life too.

That's what happened to my wife and I. We got so lucky a few months ago when we found our male AKC registered blue merle 1-1/2 year old FREE Aussie in a town a few hundred miles away! Blue eyes and bob tailed, smart as all get out with a wonderful combination of watch dog, companion and activity coordinator too! The other day on a hike we encountered a very large moose and Aikau ran up to it barking (probably his first moose). The moose charged him and our little smartypants just turned on the speed and kept running past the moose but also the opposite direction from us too. This was seen by me as perfect instinctual intelligence as most dogs will usually turn straight back to its master for protection! Instead he made a large loop through the woods and met back up with us without drawing the moose toward us. I LOVE my dog!!
I hope you find yours soon!

Thank you for the recommendations. Have tried 2 of the 3 on the list and can't find one that is in Virginia. The ones in Carolina are at least 6 hours one way making it an all day journey. I appreciate the warm reception in helping us.
