Aussie Biting Leash

How to get aggressive 8 month old Australian Shepherd from biting the leash and biting at your hands when holding the leash?

My Aussie likes using the leash for a game of tug-a-war

I have/had a similar problem with my Aussie wanting to play tug-a-war with the leash while we're on a walk. He's 14 months and has done this since early puppyhood. Whenever he starts to feel playful, he'll grab the leash and start pulling, sometimes mouthing my hand while in the process. He still tries to do it, but what I've done is walk him on a shorter lead, like a 2 foot training lead where there's only enough room for him to walk snug by your side. Because with any extra give in the lead he'll want to yank it. Mine likes to swing it around and walk himself. Another thing I do is grab on to his collar with a tight grip until he stops yanking. Or you could try a chain leash (they don't like biting those!). Just have to be firm, consistent and patient because they love to test you. Have fun!
