Aussie Puppy Weight?

Our beautiful standard black tri Aussie pup weighs 37 pounds and 17 weeks and a half. He is perfectly healthy according to our vet, however he does seem to be bigger than most Aussie puppies we've seen. His parents are both pure bred Aussies weighing 50 and 55lbs. Is it possible that he is just on the bigger side?

Aussie weight
by: Anonymous

I have a one year old Aussie who is larger than his parents - sometimes it is a combination of diet and genetics. Height at the shoulder is a better indicator of size than weight, ie, my pup is an inch and a half taller than his parents. More there to love!

Food management

It could be normal depending on the genes however, it could also be overweight problems. Aussies tend to have problems with hips and elbows, you should make sure your giving him the right amount of food depending on food type. If it's dry dog food, the bag should say how much you should be feeding him. I have 3 Aussies and I prep their food for every day of the week, that way I make sure I am not over feeding them. Measure the food by cups and put them in bags, you will have a better management of food intake. Hope it helps.
