Female In Heat?

by Shannon
(Texas)

I have two Australian Shepherds, one male two years and one female 4 months. I was wondering if its possible she's in heat? My male is acting like she is but isn't it too soon? Need some advice. I have the separated now and if she is in heat how long does it last? No I'm not breeding them so please no negative comments about that.

Most likely, your male is trying to show dominance over your female. My girls have never come in heat before 9 months and normally not until 1 1/2 years.

It is possible that she is in heat, although it is a bit early. I have had them come into heat as early as 9 months but anything is possible. A heat cycle can last up to 3 weeks.
