Hello everybody! I really hope I can get some answers here! I have been doing some research about this breed for months now, getting all sorts of different information, but still not feeling confident enough to go for this, being 100% sure I am making the right choice.
My name is Marta and I live in a three bedroom terrace house with my partner. We have a medium size garden.
We both work in healthcare, so every week I work 3 shifts, 12 hours each. My workplace is very flexible, so I get to choose the shifts I want to work, this could mean that I work 2 night shifts and 1 day shift when my partner is off (for example) so the puppy wont be alone for long hours in the beginning, until I train him slowly.
On my days off I am very active, there is running/cycling on my daily routine, and we enjoy going on hikes, at least once per week. We live very close to the countryside too.
I had a Labrador as a family pet, and I worked in a kennel for 2 years, training Pitbulls with behaviour issues.
Do you think an Australian Shepherd could fit in my lifestyle? Would it be possible to slowly train it until it feels comfortable being alone at home for 12 hours (if needed)?
I also read that these dogs are super attached to the owners, would it be a problem leaving it with family or friends for special occasions?
I am sorry for the essay! I hope I can get some answers.
Thanks xxx
