Is This Puppy A Cryptic Merle?

by Cindy

Could some expert tell me if this baby, which appears to be a black tri except at her ear, is a cryptic merle? Thank you.

I am no expert, but it is my understanding that if there is ANY merling at all, no matter how small an amount, then this is a merle and for breeding purposes should be treated as a merle.

That is what I thought too. She also has 4 white hairs (yes I counted them) on her back between her hips that are barely visible but while sponge bathing her I found. Is this a reason for concern? She is a beautiful puppy bred from a blue merle and red tri. Could she throw merles if bred to a tri? Could she safely be bred to a merle?

Hard to say from the photos, could be a bit of excess white (which may disappear as she grows). You can get a DNA test done for the merle gene.
