I have read about aussies going strong for up to 16 years whereas other breeds are lucky to reach 12. We are feeding our 3 year old male the best dog food we can get in the hope that he will stay with us a very long while. I dread that day.

I lost one at 14 years & 9 months
one at 6.5 years from leukemia.
Right now, I have one that is 11.5 and just had tumors removed this week, he is doing great. I also have a 5 year old.

The best companion

My Australian Shepard has just surpassed 15 years. They are the most loyal yet independent breed that exist. Joint issues can be curtailed with joint supplements.
