MDR1—Precautions and Care?

Hello all, Our pup is an MDR1 carrier, and we love him oh so very much! I have researched the mutation extensively, but have found that Washington State University's list of products/drugs to stay away from includes all major brands for heartworm, intestinal parasite, and flea/tick prevention and treatment. I am very nervous about this, and have consulted 4 vets who all have given me different information about what is safe.

I did follow the vet's instructions to worm him with Interceptor, but only gave our 11 pound, 13 week old pup half of the tablet (vet gave me a tablet for 11-25 pound dogs). He tolerated it well, so I hope that will be ok to continue with for future use.

What do you all suggest for safe flea/tick preventatives? Also what experience do you have with anesthesia and MDR1 Aussies?
