My Girl Sugar

by Evelyn
(Boswell, Indiana)

I have a Red Tri female Aussie her name is Sugar, I have had her since she was a puppy. She loves to sit on our porch swing and swing with me. She smiles and it is so funny. She is 5 years old now. About 4 years ago I started having health problems. I would pass out, or get so dizzy I could not walk. I have hypoglycemia. My girl Sugar would get in my way and not let me walk or if I am sitting she would not let me up. Yep it took a while for my husband and myself to figure out why she was doing this. Then one day I was watering my flower beds and she would stand in front of me and not let me walk well I pass out. My husband came out side and Sugar was laying across me, the garden hose in hand. I looked like a lawn ornament. We finally figured it out that she was sensing the spells coming on.

So now when she stands in front of me or stands across me if I am sitting down I know that a spell is coming on. Giving me enough time to get something to help my sugar level to go back up.

A year ago I had a spell and I was by myself Sugar was in our entry way and a baby gate in front of the entrance. I collapsed and Sugar jumped the gate. She has never jumped the gate before. I carry my cell phone with me at all times due to my health and I was able to call my son. When he got to our home Sugar was right by my side and would not move. My son finally had to pick her up to move her. She whined the whole time. When I can out of the low blood sugar spell they let Sugar back in she came to me, I told her I was okay and she settled down next to me.

I don't know what I would ever do without her. She is my world.

Sugar My Girl

With great sadness in my heart Sugar passed on April 10, 2020. I miss her so much. I have tried to think of getting another Aussie, but I am afraid I would judge the new puppy and comparing it to Sugar and I know that is not fair. I am so lost without my girl Sugar. I know I need another Aussie, I just miss Sugar so much.

Love & Miss You My Sugar Girl!!!!
