My New Aussie Pup Wont Quit Barking!

by Linda
(Southern Idaho)

I just recently got an Aussie pup. Her mother quit feeding the litter at 4 weeks, so my pup is only 5 weeks old. My problem is that she is ALWAYS whining/barking. This is even a problem while we are holding and playing with her. What can I do to help her? Thanks!

Barking/Whining pup

She is REALLY young. Just because the mom stops nursing the pups does not mean you give them away. I am assuming you did not breed the litter. You are her mom, so do what a mom would do. Comfort your puppy, get a warm blanket, let the puppy lie on it.
This is a critical stage for this puppy as if it were still in the litter, discipline by mom is introduced, the peeking order within the litter is established as to what brother or sister is the alpha male and female.
Consider your baby as a n infant, what would you do for an infant at this stage.
Do you have a crate to put the baby in with lots of toys, chews and like I said, A warm blanket.
Hope this helps
