My Velcro Dog

by Lenny Burrell
(Stump Creek, Pa., USA)

Dalton is my first Aussie. I have only been adopted by him for 5 days. And we are fast becoming inseparable. I am fortunate enough to have a job that lets me take him with me. He is the most loyal, trusting, companion I could ask for. I am looking forward to many more years with my best friend.

Has it really been three years?

Boy does time fly when you've been adopted by an Aussie, there is absolutely no time for boredom. Not only is he still my Velcro dog, he knows how to make me laugh (even when I don't feel like it). His looks have changed a tad he's all matured up. His mane has grown in as well as his pants. The black on his forehead has mostly faded to brown. His energy... no change.
I suffered an injury to my knee this passed Christmas season that has slowed me down considerably but Dalton seems to understand he is so patient (most of the time) He knows when I'm putting on my brace that it I am getting ready to take him for a walk or go for an adventure although now our adventures are the "easy trails" He still hates to go home he will hang his head and try to get to go in another direction away from the truck. Yesterday was our first real hike since my accident, Things went pretty well and Dalton was thrilled to get out for an extended walk. I was thrilled to get some Ibuprofen. lol Well best get moving Dalton is telling me he needs to pee...

Your Velcro Dog

Yes you are very fortunate to have been "adopted" by Dalton. If he is anything like my Aussies, he will be your soulmate and your best friend for life. My husband calls my girl, PJ, my shadow dog cause everywhere I go, she will follow. All the best to you and Dalton!
