New Australian Shepherd Pup Just Started Cowering at Everything

by Debbie
(Texas)

We just acquired a 4-month-old male, about a week ago, as a potential working cow dog. He was raised by a lady but wasn’t worked or exposed to much. His parents and grandparents all are working cow dogs on large ranches.

My husband has started him with basic commands (which he already knew) , has been working with him on a daily basis and has started taking him on the ranger and his truck. We keep him on a long leash when he’s out and until he knows our home is his home and to come when called - which he does on his leash.

The pup has been doing quite well up until this morning and he cowered at everything my husband did. He won’t respond to anything. He wouldn’t come out of his yard when my husband called him. This is not our first Aussie, but it is the first time we have experienced this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Something must have happened to cause this.
You might want to consider having a thorough checkup with a veterinarian to rule out a medical issue.
