I got Puppers in 2007 in Valley Springs, California from my best friend Robb. His two Australian Shepherds mated and a litter of 13 pups were born. I visited Robb for a weeks vacation and was introduced to these great puppies. I asked if I could have one and how much. He said pick one, so I spent two days and it was an easy pick. The red merle came over to me and laid on my lap and stayed there.
So, out of a black tri and a blue merle and the others the red found me and history was written. Though these dogs are trainable at an early age, Puppers required little to none! He was at my home in Oregon, a 700 mile drive in my Pontiac Solstice, and he laid across the center console and he was a great car dog right from the start.
He was not potty trained but knew that he had to go, so his first night he made a noise and it took me a couple of minutes to awake and get up. He had to go and he did as I was coming to the door to open it. I didn't even flinch. I bent down, picked him up, hugged him, said, "good boy" and even though he had to go he knew he was to go out all on his own!
I can go on, but all in all, the Australian Shepherd is a beautifully mannered and energetic breed and loyal as any dog can be and character to the max! I miss my best friend and would like to find another best friend. He passed away a few years ago and it's not what I call a happy day but he was exactly 12 years old! I still think of him and miss him and I'm ready to find another!
