Question About Aussie Training

by Patrick
(South Carolina)

So for a while now I have had my Aussie fetching, coming on command etc. However, when I am not at home I have to bring my dog inside due to the crowded neighborhood we live in. Due to this when it's time to go inside I'll call my dog/have him bring his toy back.

Recently he has started being skittish about coming back to me in particular and bringing his toy back to me. I just want to know if this is because I have associated coming back with going inside too many times, and if so, how to fix this.

If your Aussie likes treats, when he returns with the toy, you might trade the toy for a treat and then return inside.

In addition to what Rebecca suggests, you might consider giving him a high value treat once he actually comes inside. That will associate something extra good with having gone inside.
