Question About Nipping

by Allie
(Austin, TX )

I have a 15 week old male Mini Aussie named Kofi, sweet as can be and so fun. But me and my roommates are having issues with the nipping which sometimes becomes hard biting. I have scratches all over both hands from playing with toys gone wrong as well as holes in pants from him grabbing pants and tearing.

We have all tried both loud firm "NO" as well as yelping but both seem only to make him more aggressive and bare his teeth.

The ignoring and walking away tactic also doesn't work as it leads to him tearing clothes and ultimately skin.

Needing suggestions! I don't want to resort to anything that would cause him to be more aggressive and something that is in line with positive reinforcement.

Thanks!

Dog pulling on clothes
by: Anonymous

My puppy also did the clothes pulling thing at that age. If I turned my back on him he would just pull and sometimes bite at my legs. If you push him away he thinks it’s a game. I would try and stand still and say no one time and then ignore him. He got bored pretty quick when he saw he was not going to get a reaction from me. Maybe even crate him for a short time out. My puppy is now 27 weeks and no longer does this.
