About 5 years ago we rescued our Aussie from a shelter in Houston. He was about a year old and just laid in the cage, depressed, shedding as though he didn't care anymore. We decided to give him a home, we could tell he was very intelligent and needed a good home. He was depressed for about two weeks until one day I laid next to his bed and just scratched him for about an hour. He started coming around very quickly to our family of 5 (with two small children).
Since then he has been the most loyal, compassionate dog I have ever known. He is extremely smart and has a wonderful personality, he is excellent with children yet protective of his family. He will sit by the door when you leave and cry when you return, always willing to stay by your side and wanting nothing but love from his family. I never thought it would be possible but it does bring a tear to my eye thinking of how this beautiful Aussie who was abandoned and looked as though the world had ended could be such a happy, loyal and brave part of my family. Every dog deserves a second chance.
