Should I Use A FURminator On An Australian Shepherd?

What can I use to brush my Aussie? I've heard that FURminators are bad for the coat. Is this true? I've used a FURminators for years on a bunch of different breeds but I'm getting my first Aussie in June and want to know.

We Use a Furminator on Our Two Aussies

We purchased a large FURminator in early Jan and used it on our two Aussies two to three times a week.

Definitely has helped with shedding and we feel it makes their coat softer. Plus they enjoy it - but they love any attention. It may not leave them with a show quality coat but we feel it works well for them.

I tried a furminator on my Aussie and it worked OK. I found that using a rake got the undercoat a lot better with less tugging and struggle from my pup.
