Should My Australian Shepherd Walk in Front of or Behind Me When Hiking?

I’ve been told that my Australian Shepherd should walk behind me on hikes but my feet kept getting caught on his leash. Is it ok if he walks in front of me? I’ve heard that they shouldn’t walk in front because they can pull and make you fall.

I’m 6’1 and 210 pounds so I feel confident I won’t get pulled around.

Please advise. Thanks!

Walking on leash

I would think walking beside you would be best. I know my dog prefers to walk behind me as she has gotten older and seems to be herding me from behind.

Your Aussie can walk infront of you. People say they need to walk BEHIND you because of a dominance thing, which is unnecessary. Beside you is best but if he is in front of you it is okay as long as there not pulling you along.
