Signs Of Being In Heat

by Janel Hedsten
(Annandale, MN)

My Aussie started showing these signs last night.

She keeps circling and trying to find a comfortable way to lay down.

She doesn't appear to be feeling well. Just not her usual self.

She is not eating or drinking much.

She continues to bark at the neighbors when outside (but not as much as she usually does, as she loves people and wants to go to them), and even continues her barking at other dogs. (I took her with me in the car to the gas station today and there was a dog in the next car. She is definitely an alpha female.)

She wants to be close to me when inside, but prefers to be outside. (It is the beginning of September.) Last night she crawled into bed with me.

She has had 3 litters but at the time she was living with a relative and I wasn't around to observe her going in to heat.

She is 4 1/2 years old.

Are these signs that she is in heat?
