Snow Shoeing - Any Tips?

by Mimi
(Seattle)

Hi All, My Aussie is still a pup at 4 months old, but in another month or 2, I'd like to take her Snow Shoeing.

I've not been able to find much information about how to introduce her to it - like does she need boots or a jacket? These would be short trips, but is there anything I should know about taking care of her paws or preventing hypothermia? If I can't take her now, how old should she be before I can take her?

Thanks for any info!

I love snowshoeing! I take my Aussies with me everyday weather permitting. Aussies can usually handle cold temps and snow, but it might be good to get her used to boots. With heavy hair on their feet, Aussies tend to get ice balls building up between their toes. You can start taking her for short distances at any time. Mine usually get used to the snowshoes and their placement pretty fast. Have fun!
