Urinary Problem

by Ron
(Austin, TX)

I just rescued an 8 mo old male. He is urinating at the drop of a hat in the house. I know he is somewhat timid and we are really giving a lot of positive reinforcement. Is this reversible?

Urinary issues

Yes it is reversible unless there is some medical issue. I'm guessing you already checked with your vet.

Start training him just as you would with a young puppy. We have a string of bells on our back door. Each time we take them out, we tell them to ring the bell, take their paw and make the bell ring, praise them, when they go potty outside, more praise and a small treat. After a little while he will learn to associate ringing the bell with going outside to potty and will want to please you.

Sounds like he is stressed and needs lots of living too. I know you are supplying that! Parents of Aussies LOVE their dogs.

Let us know how things are going. I am sure many more Aussie-Lovers will have more suggestions.
