What Is The Right Age To Have A Male Aussie Neutered?

My Aussie, Akela, is now 8 months old. I have read many conflicting information regarding the ideal age to neuter male dogs. I read that apparently too early will prevent that their bones develop well (the vet tells me this applies only to large breeds) or that "the earlier the better" to avoid certain type of cancer. I don't know what to do.

Wait until maturity

Long term effects of neutering can be seen in any sized dog, although some are more prevalent in larger dogs who are already more predisposed to some of the effects/diseases. Testosterone does play a role in closing the growth plates at the proper time, so in any sized dog that is not completely grown you do risk the dog developing disproportionately and increasing the risk of joint issues later in life. This would not necessarily be visible (e.g. you may think that your dog is growing proportionately). I would wait until 18-24 months old if possible.
