When Will My Dog's Long Coat Come Back?

How long does it normally take for Aussies to grow their coats out after shedding? I have three 2 year old Australian Shepherds all within a few weeks of age and two of them lost their beautiful coats. I've read that this is normal and they will get it back and it was probably just because they came into heat but wondering how long this little ugly duckling stage will last until they get their coats back and what can I do to help?
