Why Does My Black Tri Australian Shepherd Have Grey Fur Now?

My dog is a black tri girl who started off with typical black tri coloring, but then around 11-12 months a lot of grey fur grew in on her legs when her winter coat came in.

I haven't been able to find anything about why she has this color in her coat now; any ideas? In some places, the grey fur seems to be part of the same strand as black and tan fur, in other places it's on its own.
