Will Aussie Father Harm The Pups?

by Scott P.

We are anticipating a litter of puppies soon from our Aussie couple, first litter ever for us.

Mom is about 45lbs, 2 yrs old. Dad (named Bandit) is 7 months old and already 50lbs. Vet thinks he will be a 65 pounder when full grown.

My question: Is there any possibility that Bandit would harm his own new-born babies? He likes to kill small mammals, like possum, moles, rats, etc. He really is a very sweet dog otherwise, very loving and affectionate.

Does nature instill in Aussie Daddies not to harm the pups? Or do you have to separate them?

It is definitely possible. It happens in the wild. I would keep the sire away from mom and the pups.
