Will My Puppy's Ears Prick?

by Brittany S
(Wisconsin)

She's about 5 months old right now, and teething, so her ear set is all over the place. But when she lays down or is looking up at someone, her ears stay erect and don't fall even if I flick them gently or fiddle with them. They just bounce back into place. During play or when she's standing normally, however, they just fall either to the front or side.

This is the first Aussie I've owned, so I'm just wondering if there's a chance they'll still prick, or if it's pretty much decided by her body by now. Either way I'll love her. I'm just curious!

If you have an Aussie with prick ears, at what age did they prick and stay pricked?

I have the same question
by: Seaneen

I’ve asked this so many times in groups and forums and no one can give me a definitive answer because every dog is different. My pup is about the same age. He’ll be 5 months on sept 10th. His ears move between button and rose so far. Every once in awhile they’ll stick up if he’s lying on his side or playing but they fall within 2-3 seconds. Not sure if it’s teething or prick ears starting. I was taping them for awhile but it was a pain in the butt so I’m leaving them as they are naturally. Today we have nice button ears. We’ll see how long it lasts haha.
