Working With A Rescued Aussie

by Katie
(Shell Lake, WI)

I am a 20 year old college student who just saved an Aussie from a misfitting home. She is a 6 month old blue merle and is just a doll most of the time. I can already tell she has chosen me as her leader. She was obviously treated badly by her male owner based on her reaction to my dad and brothers. She is sweet to them until they try to give direction and then she gets flustered and pees. She has never done that when I give her commands.

Her coat was full of mats and she was covered in ticks. It was also obvious that she had never received the proper attention training and exercise required for the breed. She will be joining me at school in the fall so I want to use this summer to get her better socialized and very well mannered. She is a horrible jumper and bites and mouths everything.

What are some tips and advice. I didn't know much about the breed before I took her in but I'm willing to do everything and anything to keep her. She has already won my heart. Thanks for the help :)
